If you know anything about BFLC you will have some understanding of the style of law firm that we run- it is not your typical law firm (but that is how we like it!)
At Brisbane Family Law Centre we help families’ experiencing separation and divorce to find a way through the mess and out the other side to a better future. We pride ourselves on working with our clients in a way that keeps them out of the Family Law Courts. Do we still go to Court- yes but it is not where we start. We are focused on the outcome for the whole family, even though we might only be working with part of a family. And we are skilled at educating and empowering our clients to be the best people they can be in the difficult situations they face.
BFLC is not like most firms- fixed fee pricing, no time recording and a focus on mediation and Collaborative Practice means many of the usual stressors of legal practice are minimised.
And yes, we are the home of the wellness movement ‘Happy Lawyer Happy Life’ so you can expect that we have the happy lawyer thing worked out.
We are always on the look out for ‘real people’- ones that have stories, lives, families and children. We don’t mind if their families are more important than their work. We also don’t mind if from time to time their families take front and centre in their lives. But what we know we can offer is a workplace where helpful, kind, caring people with a love of helping other people can thrive.

Are you our next Family Lawyer?
It’s an exciting time here at BFLC as we have decided we need another lawyer to join our team. When it comes down to it, those that work best here at BFLC are lawyers who understand the human side of family law. Sure, we solve legal problems but at the heart of those challenges are people like you and me who need kindness, care and compassion along the way.
We are looking for an Experienced Family Lawyer but the rest is up for discussion. We are very happy to discuss all the various arrangements could make work ‘work for you’.
Life at BFLC is not for everyone- sure we are the home of hashtag #thoseconfettilawyers but underneath that colourful exterior, a whole lot of hard but great work goes on. We live in the ‘human’, the ‘why’, the ‘tell me more about that’ and the ‘how can we fix this’ all day, every day with a nerdy, legal tweak! We will continue to strive to be leaders in our field, we ask that you give us your best work and strive to get there too.
You’d be a great fit if-
- You have experience in family law. We’re not fixed on a particular PAE, though if you come along to join us you’ll be managing files yourself, in our collaborative team.
- We are open to you pitching to us which working arrangements you desire, keeping in mind we are looking for a lawyer to autonomously run a file load and attend all necessary ‘stuff’ that your client’s may need from you.
- You approach legal problems as a whole and are considerate of the impact of any legal processes on families.
- You are willing to get creative in imagining up how to help your clients. You won’t be bound by unnecessary policies and procedures, if you think your client needs something to help them through, let’s try it!
- You know your client’s best interests go deeper than numbers on a balance sheet, and you want to be a part of helping people live their best lives following their separation or divorce.
- You are warm, approachable and kind to your clients and colleagues.
- You work hard and have excellent attention to detail.
- You are ready to toss those time sheets (we only do fixed fee!)
- You’re looking for a working environment where your fellow team mates celebrate each other, collaborate instead of compete and value happy clients over billable hours.
- You’re fine to go without hierarchy, competitiveness and traditional corporate culture, including those fancy titles. We are more interested in getting stuff done together than what we call each other along the way.

Are you our next Director of First Impressions?
We are hiring! BFLC is on the hunt for a receptionist, or as we like to call this role, ‘Director of First Impressions.’
A bit about the role- Our office requires a full time Director of First Impressions! You will be working 8:30am – 5:00pm Monday to Friday in our Albion Office! You’ll be the first face and voice our clients meet when they step into our office or call. You will be answering phones, sending emails, filing and scanning documents, talking to clients, setting up appointments and going on all types of errands (coffee, cake, supplies etc). Each day will be a little bit different but your main goal as Director of First Impressions is to keep the office running smoothly and, of course, to provide assistance to our staff and clients.
