Over the years Clarissa and the team at BFLC have been acknowledge for our contribution to changing the narrative on both divorce and separation but also on wellness in the legal industry. Here is a sample of the industry awards we have achieved.

Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30- Family Law

In June 2023, Kiarah received the 30 Under 30 award for Family Law, presented by Lawyers Weekly. Kiarah has made it her mission to improve the financial futures of women following separation and divorce through best practice, research and education. Kiarah is known for saying yes and putting her hat in the ring to learn something new and expand her career progression. To be acknowledged for her passion and hard work in Family Law, at the age of 27 is a honour.

Queensland Law Society Excellence in Law Awards 'Agnes McWhinney Award'

In August 2022, Clarissa received the Agnes McWhinney Award, presented by Queensland Law Society. To receive acknowledgment for her extensive efforts in making #lawland a happier place and for forging new pathways for female lawyers. Agnes McWhinney was the first female solicitor in Queensland. She was a trailblazer for women in the law and to receive this acknowledgment in making #lawland a happier place is actually just the best.

Minds Count Foundation for Individual Leadership in Legal Mental Wellbeing

Clarissa is deeply proud to have been presented the Minds Count Foundation for Individual Leadership in Legal Mental Wellbeing award. Clarissa often describes herself these days as an ‘Accidental Wellness Advocate’ in Law Land. It is not something Clarissa set out to become, but is a role she now takes with great pride. The rates of mental illhealth in law continue to be far higher than in the broader population and it is through the work of foundations such as Minds Count that we are seeing tangible change.

Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards ‘Wellness Advocate of the Year’ 2019

Following many years of work as what she calls an ‘accidental wellness advocate’ in law, Clarissa was recognised as the 2019 Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards Wellness Advocate of the Year. Over the past 4+ years, lawyers both nationally and internationally have jumped aboard her ‘happiness project’ by listening to the podcast, reading the book, participating in the 7 day happiness challenge or 8 week online course, talking with friends and colleagues and perhaps most importantly, asking the question- how can I be a happier lawyer? Clarissa is deeply proud to have contributed to furthering the conversation about wellness in law but we know there is still a whole lot of #lawlandbedazzling to be done!

Lexis Nexis and Janders Dean Legal Innovation Index 2017

Clarissa was recently recognised for her innovative ‘Happy Lawyer Happy Life’ platforms, receiving the 2017 LexisNexis and Janders Dean Legal Innovation Index Award for “The Club”, an online community for entrepreneurial lawyers looking to make the best out of their business while making the best of their lives outside of the law.

Lawyers Weekly Women in Law 2015 ‘Thought Leader of the Year’

In 2015 Clarissa was awarded the Lawyers Weekly ‘Thought Leader of the Year’ Award for her work in opening a dialogue for better ways to support families experiencing divorce and separation. Clarissa is also the immediate past President of the Family Law Practitioners Association of Qld- the representative body for over 900 Family Law Professionals throughout Queensland.
